Top Executives From Universal And Republic Records To Speak At Music Business & Law Conference In NYC On November 15, 2019

The Entertainment, Arts & Sports Law (EASL) Section of the New York State Bar Association will feature top executives from Universal and Republic Records at its Annual Music Business and Law Conference in New York City on Friday, November 15, 2019.

The conference will be held at New York Law School, 185 West Broadway, New York, NY 10013. The full-day event offers 6 MCLE credits for attorneys and 7.0 CPE credits for accountants.

A keynote panel to be moderated by New York University Steinhardt Clinical Associate Professor and Director, Music Business Program Larry S. Miller will include:

- Avery Lipman, co-founder and president of Republic Records
- Steve Gawley, Esq., EVP business and legal, Universal Music Group, East Coast Labels
- Daniel Getz, Esq., SVP business and legal, Universal Music Group, Republic Records

The Music Business and Law Conference features a variety of speakers from law, finance, government and business, with panels focusing on global perspectives in blanket licensing, artist income streams, financial issues with band merchandise, copyright registration challenges, the newly passed Music Modernization Act, diversity and implicit bias, trends in music publishing, catalog acquisitions and the yearly litigation update.

Industry leaders will be discussing, disputing and providing education on the many legal, business and financial topics affecting the music industry during the course of the day-long conference. Participants include the general counsel, associate register of copyrights from the U.S. Copyright Office, the executive vice president and general counsel of the National Music Publishers’ Association and senior executives from SoundExchange, BMI, Rumblefish, Viacom, Vydia, as well as members of preeminent law and accounting firms.

The annual conference is an excellent opportunity for attorneys, accountants, artists, and other music industry professionals to catch up on the complex business, technological and legal issues swirling around the industry. In this era of digital rights, rapidly exploding technology, and upheaval impacting the music industry’s business models, staying current with new legal developments has never been more critical for attorneys serving the entertainment business.

Attorneys attending the program will receive 6.0 New York State MCLE (Mandatory Continuing Legal Education) credits and accountants will receive 7.0 Certified Public Accountant credits, which may also be accepted in other jurisdictions. A light breakfast and luncheon will be provided.
